In fairy-tale endings, all the ends come together.
All the secrets of the hurting heart healed.
The evil queen condemned, the lost soul found and liberated.
Fathers know their children, the princess freed from doom of death.
Lovers are come together again by happy fate
Confined by forever after to mirthful blue-eyed boys and castles in the sky.
And we who live between the greying lines
of here and there and everywhere
Are cursed brutally to red dreams such as these
Fed by weavers of tales and dreamers of light and wanderers of lost places
To compromise for the coldness of the indifference of human meaning.
And yet
How beautiful
That self-same indifference of base humanity
That induces wanderlust and selfish wants
and conscious serendipity
and the breathless awareness of a broken soul.
