the candles sing our names.

What if the rain never stopped?
And what if while everyone else was looking to go higher we flew like sundered birds to the depths?
And what if we lost ourselves to water and song and drowned like only the dancers and dreamers can?
You would be a sea-dragon and I would become a seal, and we'd love each other well from there.
And if any remembered, they would make for us a myriad of lights and send up prayers to the sky.
And they would weave us into stories and sing us into songs and carve us into eternity.
They would tell their daughters not to love like I did, and they'd tell their sons to beware of the sea.

And in the nights when we grew tired of flying we'd sing their wandering children to sleep.
